Nail Services Nail Basics Consulting Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a nail salon?
For more than 15 years, Precision Nails has been exclusively nails only. If our salon doesn’t look like a typical nail salon, then we have achieved our goal of creating an elegant, comfortable and clean environment for our clients to enjoy.

Does that mean you don’t do hair, waxing, tanning, etc.?
That’s exactly what that means.

How long has this salon been here?
In August 2005, Precision Nails relocated from Pacific Grove to the Crossroads in Carmel and expanded to include more nail technicians.

How much are your manicures, pedicures, etc.?
Both our brochure and website include service descriptions and pricing. Because the names of our services may be unfamiliar, we suggest that you review this information to select the services that best meet your needs. If you need more information, please call, email or visit the salon.

Do you take walk-ins?
We strongly recommend that clients reserve appointments in advance; in fact, our Preferred Clients reserve their standing appointments more than a year in advance. Walk-in appointments are only available when time allows.

How many stations/technicians do you have? Can my friend(s) and I get our nails done at the same time?
Precision Nails emphasizes the quality of its services, not the quantity of clients served. Thus, our salon accommodates only two clients at a time in private, individual rooms. Because standing appointments dominate our schedule, simultaneous appointments for you and a friend are not very likely.

What’s a Preferred Client? How do I get a standing appointment?
Preferred Clients have standing appointments in one-, two-, or four-week intervals, depending on the service(s). Precision Nails offers standing appointments by invitation only. To be considered, a client must be punctual and be able to keep a regular schedule with few exceptions.

Do you keep a waiting list?
Precision Nails does keep a waiting list; let us know what service(s) you want and when, and we’ll contact you if an appointment becomes available. Preferred Clients and existing clients have scheduling priority on the waiting list.

Do you give a group/multi-service discount?
Our services are priced as listed in our brochure and on this website.

Can I have your nail services done outside of the salon?
To maintain quality, Precision Nails offers its services at the salon only.

Can you recommend another salon?
We’d be happy to recommend other nail salons that meet our standards for quality and cleanliness. Because we don’t know any, we suggest that you choose carefully.

Can somebody fix my broken nail/give me a fill?
Precision Nails provides nail repair and maintenance services to existing clients only. We cannot assume responsibility for the work and/or products of other nail salons.

Do you do acrylic nails?
We don’t do liquid-and-powder acrylics. We specialize in gel enhancements.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What is gel?
Like all artificial nail products, gel is based on the acrylic family of chemicals. Unlike traditional acrylics or wraps, gel consists of pre-formed chains of monomers (oligomers) that cure when exposed to UV light. We offer only gel enhancements because they:
• beautify and protect your natural nails;
• are virtually odor-free;
• adhere well without acid primer;
• do not require excessive filing; and
• have a durable, shiny finish that resists solvents.
Gel enhancements must be maintained regularly and do not work for everyone.

Why don’t you have spa pedicure chairs?
Spa pedicure chairs waste water, time and money. We should know . . . having once owned the most advanced and expensive ($13,000!) pedicure spa available. Our innovative Foot Detail service produces excellent results without the health risks associated with pedicure spas. Our clients relax in leather recliners and enjoy warm towels, appropriate callus reduction, gentle exfoliation, moisturizing paraffin and a soothing massage.

Do you do men?
If by “do,” you mean “Do we have male clients?” Of course! Our male clients appreciate the privacy of our salon and the efficiency of our services.

Do you accept tips?
Precision Nails compensates its employees who provide services on a commission basis. If you choose to provide a tip, please include it with your payment to facilitate tax reporting. We appreciate your generosity, as do our local, state and federal governments.

Are nail products safe?
Absolutely . . . unless you ingest them, rub them into your eyes or otherwise use them inappropriately. Quality nail product ingredients like toluene, dibutyl pthalate (DBP) and tosylamide/formaldehyde resin have been around for decades and have not proven harmful if handled properly in the salon environment.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Why don’t you use (insert brand name here) products?
Our exclusive services demand the most effective products available, from the fastest and safest polish remover (pure acetone) to professional polishes containing the best ingredients (like toluene solvent). We select products for their superior performance; if we don’t use a particular product, there’s a valid reason.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What’s a good polish color?
Precision Nails stocks almost 200 colors from Essie and China Glaze, both professional-only brands. Whether you prefer a subtle sheer pink or a bold blue frost, our staff will gladly help you choose just the right color. Your color selection may also be purchased for use at home.

Do you sell gift certificates?
The Precision Nails Client Card works like a gift certificate that never expires. Activation requires a minimum purchase of $25 or more; additional value can purchased at any time.

Where did you go to beauty school?
We all attended beauty school in the same shabby building in Seaside, California. If you want to learn how to do nails, we suggest you attend elsewhere.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Do you cut cuticles?
We do not cut the live tissue surrounding your nail plate.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Do you shave calluses?
No, we do not. Using blade-like instruments (razors, shavers, graters, etc.) violates the regulations of the Board of Barbering & Cosmetology and goes beyond our scope of practice.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Can I bring my own tools?
Please leave your tools at home. In this salon, we use only our own, having selected the best professional tools for each service, and sterilize them to protect your safety.
